What is Android DLL?

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files on Android, often referred to as AAR (Android Archive) or JAR (Java ARchive) files, serve a similar purpose to their Windows counterparts. These files are used for code sharing and reusability across applications. They contain compiled Java or Kotlin code, resources, and metadata that can be dynamically linked by the Android runtime environment at load time.

AAR files are essentially ZIP files containing a classes.jar file (which includes bytecode), resource directories (res/), a manifest file (AndroidManifest.xml), and other assets. They facilitate modularity in app development, allowing developers to reuse components such as libraries or UI elements without including the entire source code.

JAR files are more commonly used for distributing Java applications but can also be utilized on Android through AAR packages. The inclusion of these files in Android projects enhances performance by reducing the need for recompilation and facilitating easier maintenance and updates.
