1. Restart the Thunderbolt Service
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Scroll down and find Thunderbolt(TM) Service.
- Right-click it and select Restart (or Start if it is not running).
- Right-click it again, select Properties, and set Startup type to Automatic.
2. Run the System File Checker (SFC)
- Press the Windows Key.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Type
sfc /scannowand press Enter. - Wait for the scan to finish and restart your computer.
3. Run the DISM Tool
If the SFC tool does not work, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator again.
- Type
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthand press Enter. - Restart your PC after the process reaches 100%.
4. Reinstall via Device Manager
Windows keeps a local copy of original drivers, so you do not need to download anything new.
- Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the System devices category.
- Look for Thunderbolt(TM) Controller.
- Right-click it and choose Uninstall device.
- Do not check the box that says "Attempt to remove the driver for this device" if prompted.
- Click Uninstall.
- Click the Scan for hardware changes icon at the top menu bar (the computer monitor with a magnifying glass). Windows will automatically reinstall the driver from its local storage.
